Trans-Vietnam Bike Tour for Environment

More than 30 volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City have finished a trans-Vietnam bike tour through 20 provinces and cities to call on people to protect environment.

At a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on October 3 to review the programme, Dang Van Khoa, president of the city’s Nature and Environmental Protection Association, said that the programme aims to improve the awareness of volunteers and the community about value of cultural and natural heritage and the importance of protecting valuable genes and national bio-diversity.

During the 36-day tour in August and September, the volunteers rode 2,000km to study the actual situation of Vietnam’s natural and cultural heritage, including Nui Chua National Park in Ninh Thuan, Bach Ma National Forest in Thua Thien-Hue, and Cuc Phuong National Forest in Ninh Binh. They conducted surveys on heritage preservation in Hoi An in Quang Nam province, the Imperial City of Hue, Quang Tri Citadel and Thang Long-Hanoi Imperial Citadel.

They also held 18 meetings with more than 300 local people, including young people and launched the “Riding Bicycles for the Environment” programme in Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa province; Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh province and Dong Hoi in Quang Binh province.
