Cat Ba island belongs to Hai Phong province. It takes about one hour boat to reach this island from Hai Phong city. Cycling around the island, from Cat Ba town to Cat Ba national park, or cycling Viet Hai village are the two best cycling trails in the area. With its total area 354 km ², this island is the largest island in Halong Bay. It is decorated with splendid beaches between small fishing villages, deserve to take a break after the visit of the famous Halong Bay.
With over three hundred rocky islets, it forms an archipelago that lies about 20 km to south of the famous Halong Bay and 48 km to the east of Hai Phong (2:30 by boat).
The limestone mountains reach to 330 m, contain numerous lakes, waterfalls and caves. At here about twenty sites of weapons and human bones was found that dating back 6-7000 years ago.
Just one kilometer from the Cat Ba village is the ideal white beaches of Cat Co for swimming.

Cat Ba National Park
The Cat Ba National Park is home to an extraordinary biodiversity earned it in 2004 to be classified as a biological reservoir UNESCO World. The park covers 4,200 hectares of seawater and 9,800 hectares of forest.
In 1986 a half of the island and 90 km ² of coast have been classified as National Park.
The document identifies 32 species of mammals, including moose, monkeys, wild boars, deer, squirrels, hedgehogs, 69 species of birds, including hawks or the hornbill, and twenty species of reptiles and amphibians .
