About Nha Trang Vietnam
Nha Trang is a coastal city and capital of Khanh Hoa Province, on the South Central Coast of Vietnam. The city lies on the trans-Vietnam highway, 1,278km from Hanoi, and 448km from Ho Chi Minh City. It is endowed by nature with deep, quiet and warm waters all the year round, surrounded by archipelagoes, islands, mountains and white sand beaches – a wonderful and attractive tourist resort.
Nha Trang is well known for its beaches and scuba diving and has developed into a popular destination for international tourists, attracting large numbers of travelers.
Historically, Nha Trang was known as Kauthara under rule of the Kingdom of Champa. The city is still home to the famous Po Nagar Tower built by the Champa. Being a coastal city, Nha Trang is a center for marine science based at the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute. The Hon Mun marine protected area is one of four first marine protected areas in the world admitted by the IUCN.
To the north of the city stands the Chong mount which looks like a wide open hand over the sea. Far offshore, the Yen (Swallow) Island appears with lush green colors where salangane nests have been harvested for years to make the traditional “bird’s nest” tonic and food.
The 7km white sand beach of Nha Trang is often called Vietnam’s Mediterranean Area, considered one of the jewel along Vietnam’s long stretching coast line. Nha Trang Bay is recognized as one of 29 most beautiful bays in the world.

What to explore on your Nha Trang bicycle tour?
Nha Trang beach is the main draw in Nha Trang city. The sand is quite littered and the water can also be polluted, so if you are going to Nha Trang specifically for the beach, better to head out of Nha Trang to Bai Dai and Cam Ranh for beautiful clean deserted beaches and clear blue waters. If Nha Trang is a stop of your Vietnam bicycle tour, the below sites can be added to your travel wishlist.
National Oceanographic Museum of Vietnam
The National Oceanographic Museum of Vietnam is like an aquarium with popular and rare species of the sea. A perfect place to bring kids as they will get to see sharks, turtles, coral reefs, lionfish, sea horses, and many other creatures.
Alexandre Yersin Museum
The Alexandre Yersin Museum is a scientific museum of a Swiss-born, Dr. Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943), who arrived in Vietnam in 1891 to study infected animals. He then later on produced a serum from horses and buffaloes. In this museum, you will be able to view all of his work as well as his equipment. Yersin never went back to Switzerland as he spent the rest of his life in Nha Trang.
Long Son Pagoda
Long Son Pagoda was established in 1963 to honor the monks and nuns who died demonstrating against the southern Vietnam government. At this pagoda, you will see a 79 ft. tall white Buddha.
Po Nagar Cham Towers
Po Nagar Cham Towers were built by the Cham civilization between the 7th and 12th century to honor Yang Ino Po Ngar, mother of the kingdom, and the incense aroma emanating from within makes it clear that this remains a religious site for the local Buddhists of Nha Trang today. The longevity of these last vestiges of a once-dominant South East Asian civilization should impress temple enthusiasts even if the insensitive restoration and surrounding mass of tourists don’t. The small complex sits on a hill which enjoys views across Nha Trang’s fishing village.
Bao Dai Villa
The Bao Dai Villas are located on top of a small hill. You have a beautiful view of the Nha Trang bay from there. The wind is cool and it is a nice place to relax at when it is too hot in the city. Bao Dai Villa can be visited by bicycle with a half day tour.
Nha Trang Cathedral
Nha Trang cathedral shows the influence of French Catholicism. It’s a Quaint, free and quick sight to see. The Nha Trang area still has a strong Catholic population.
Dien Khanh Fortress
The Dien Khanh Citadel is situated on Dien Khanh Townlet, Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa Province. The Citadel was built by the French officer Olivier de Puymanel for Nguyen Anh in 1793 with an area of 36,000 square meters according to the Vauban military architecture which was popular in Western Europe in 17th – 18th centuries. It is one of the oldest citadels in the south of Vietnam and it is one of the precious vestiges for studying ancient citadels.
Doc Let beach
Doc Le beach is situated around 50 km north of Nha Trang city. It is more tranquil, cleaner and beautiful than the beach in Nha Trang. This beach has soft white sand.
Bai Dai beach
Bai Dai beach is situated on the scenic road from Nha Trang to Cam Ranh airport. It is around 30 km from Nha Trang city. As you have passed over the mountains there is a very long and nice beach named Bai Dai which means “long beach”. It is clean and beautiful. From September to May each year, there are also good waves for beginner and intermediate surfing, and the water is warm, clear blue and beautiful.
Bai Duong Beach
Bai Duong beach is smaller than in the main tourist area. The beach has a gentler grade, and warmer waters, and is also calmer, cleaner, and ideal for swimming.
Ba Ho waterfall
Ba Ho waterfall is situated approximately 20Kms North of Nha Trang city. It is a complex of three waterfalls and a quite fast flowing at (some points) river tucked away in the forest.
Fairy Spring waterfalls
Fairy Spring is a small, cool stream and swimming hole much visited by the local youth on weekends. The swimming hole is at the end of a short jungle walk. It is a pleasant place to visit in summer. In winter the water is too cold to swim. The streams source is the area of Hon Ba, the highest peak in the province.
Thap Ba Hot Springs and Mud baths
Thap Ba Hot Springs and Mud baths is located on the north side of Nha Trang, about 4km from city center.
